A Good Day

We had a really good day here.  It started off kind of rough as I was waiting for Leann to get here with the kids so I called Dad and Grandpa before church.  It was kind of hard to be here on Father's Day.  We couldn't get the computer connection to work this morning so listened to a CD sermon which was really encouraging.  Then caught the afternoon Tremont service.  It was just really encouraging and lifted my spirits.

I had a bit of headache this morning so it started out a bit rough but then took some tylenol.  I was able to get out and walk around a bunch more, and overall had more energy today and feeling better.  After church Duane & Bonnie Rocke and their kids came down to visit, which was really nice.  As I told Duane, everyone who comes or emails or sends a card lifts my spirits.  It doesn't take great words, just the simple act of caring means so much to each of us.  And Leann read me some of the emails we've been getting.  It touches me so much.

They've stopped draining my lumbar drain now so I should be able to sleep longer tonigh without having to wake up every two hours.  Leann is going to spend the night here in the room with me for the first time.  Thanks again for all your prayers.

Our encouraging phrase from the day is:  Face each day with courage knowing God is in charge.

  1. Hey Derek and Leann,
Thanks for all the updates. We're faithful in checking your blog along with faithful in prayer for you. We love you both so much. Visited Grandpa and Grandma this afternoon. He said you had called and said how much that meant to them. :) God bless you both. And Happy Father's Day.

  4. Derek & Leann,
I am your mom's first cousin, and wanted to let you know we are praying for you. My husband had a brain tumor removed on April 3rd, so we know what you are going through. He went through 6 wks of radiation M-F also, and just finished up 10 days ago. He also took an oral chemo medication, an hour before radiation and on the weekends, so it will be interesting to follow your blog and see where Derek's treatment is alike/different from Stan's. I agree with Derek, it's one day at a time, and make the most of each day. We've been given a chance to correct any mistakes, and make sure we keep each day focused on Christ and not ourselves. It's easy to forget that when things start getting back to "normal!" (will there ever be anything normal again?)

  5. So good to hear from you Derek! So glad you're feeling better and that you all are able to be together on Father's Day and for Leann's birthday. Still so many people asking about you and praying for you! We continue to pray for quick recovery, wisdom/direction in the radiation treatment plan, and that the tumor does not return. Happy Father's Day and Happy Birthday, Leann. We miss you.

Thank you, too, for sharing your reflections and what God is teaching you through this great trial. It is helpful for us all to remember that this life if not our own and none of us knows how much time we have on this earth.
